Name/Title1905 'Originals' All Blacks Jersey
About this objectWorn by Ponsonby All Black George Nicholson during the 1905-6 Originals tour of the U.K, France and the U.S.A. The collarless, almost skin tight jersey came to symbolise the All Black legacy of excellence in rugby that began with that 1905 tour. The jersey is made from fine wool with a quilted, waxed linen yoke around the shouders to repel water. The neck was edged with leather and laced up at the front. Nicholson served the Ponsonby Rugby Club in many capacities for decades. Photo images in the club committee room show Nicholson presenting the jersey to the club in his old age.
