Name/TitleEngland schoolboy jersey, 1905
About this objectEver wondered why people talk about rugby jerseys rather than shirts? A look at this early woollen example shows why. The blood stains hint at a hard game but the jersey would be equally useful keeping the chill off on a cold winter’s day. The jersey was worn during the second ever Schoolboy international match, which was played against Wales in 1905. There was no standard RFU rose design until 1920.
