Name/Title'Sharps of Sabotage' from the 1981 Springbok Tour
About this objectGlass, pins, tacks and fish hooks concealed inside tennis balls and fired on Lancaster Park by anti-tour demonstrators, are sharp reminders of the depth of feeling the 1981 Springbok tour unleashed. Although the mass protests and civil unrest of the 1981 tour are seen as the pinnacle of the rugby and race debate, protests against playing South African teams began as early as 1960 when the All Blacks bowed to the race laws of the republic and selected a touring team with no coloured players.
